Ellen (Ellie) was born in 1945 in Brooklyn, New York. From 1965-1967 she attended Philadelphia College of Art, studying art education. Rather than pursuing a teaching career Ellie decided to become a painter. From a very young age Ellie was involved in some form of art, drawing and painting being the constant source of pleasure. In the 70s, she was an etcher, in the early 80s, an assistant to an English graphic designer, during which time Ellie became proficient at various techniques including, murals, trompe l’oeil, faux finishes, marbling, graining, stenciling, and sign painting. In the 80’s she designed and executed large stained glass panels for private homes and offices, restored church windows and taught stained glass. From 1987-1989 she did animation for many children’s educational programs including Sesame Street and 321 Contact. One of her favorite projects during this period was painting backgrounds and doing “ink and paint” for The Ring of Truth, a 6-part series on PBS. Ellie has a broad knowledge of different disciplines that she brings to her current acrylic paintings, that are in private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
Ellie now resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
